Vancouver, BC

36th Annual Crosscurrents Conference, Special Education Association of British Columbia

Using the ABCs of Mental Health for Young Children to Understand Childhood Emotional and Behavioural Challenges Through the Lens of Attachment: We will seek to understand children’s challenging behaviors by exploring contributing mental health factors (such as anxiety, depression, and regulation) and the connection between behaviors, mental health, and the relationships children have with the most trusted adults in their lives. We will discover how these relationships create for the child neurological and emotional trajectories that can significantly impact later development. Our ultimate goal will be to inform emotionally safe responses to challenging behaviors that encourage healthy brain development, and reduce the intensity of the behavior.
